Wesley Kraig Winterbottom, 66, was born on April 28, 1952 and went to be with our Lord on October 16, 2018.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Grace Church, 4200 E 25th Street in Des Moines at 10:00 a.m.

Wesley grew up on Des Moines’ Eastside with his three brothers. He was surrounded by a host of beloved family. He often said that he had the best childhood you could have.

Wesley graduated from East High School in 1970 and came from a multi-generational East High alumni. He attended Grandview College.

Whatever job or task Wesley had, he gave it his all. He was employed with Leader Construction as a project manager. He worked with his boss and good friend, Bob Leader for 32 years.

Wesley had a short marriage to Vicky Duke which gave him his beautiful daughter, Brieanne. In June of 2000, he married Judy Rynning-Thayer and gained three more daughters, Brooke, Holly and Marissa. Wesley and Judy combined families and called them all “ours.” Eventually this included twelve grandchildren – Ajah, Devon, Queden, Zayveon, Selene, Gannon, Sierra, Haley (Mike), Trey, Sammy and Brandon. He had five great-grandchildren, Isabella, Mya, Jace, Abriella and Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Alice and Harold Winterbottom, brothers-in-law, Rick Rynning, Larry Gilbert and Harley Rynning, and sister-in-law, Helen Tolbert. He is survived by his wife, Judy, his four daughters, Brieanne (Leon) Ballew, Marissa (Vern) Willey, Holly Thayer, and Brooke Thayer, twelve grandchildren, five great-granchildren, three brothers, Rick (Karen), Brad (Cyndi) and Scott (Kristin) Winterbottom, sisters-in-law, Gwen (Galen) Kurth, Dene Trulson, Ellen Rynning, Julie Watford, and Pat Thayer, as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Wesley is also survived by his first father, Wesley Caliger, brothers, Steve (Marie) and Dave Caliger, sisters, Amy (Dave) Ferron and Molly Caliger, aunt, Shirley Forrest, countless friends, three cats and a parrot. Wesley often expressed how truly blessed his life was.
