Ouy Sayavongchanh, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Ouy was born October 10, 1944 in Ban Nahai, Laos. He came to the United States and settled in Des Moines in 1979 with his wife and five children. Ouy retired from Peachiney Company as a Machine Operator after many years of faithful service. He was a member of Lao Buddhist Temple and Lao American Association. Ouy enjoyed singing and working on cars. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Ouy is survived by his loving wife, Alom Buphasiri; children, Phensy (Tony) Pane, Chanthaboun (Rodney Hillebo), Lamphoune (Seng), and Vanpheng (Kady); eight grandchildren; brother Amkha (Somchith); sister-in-law Mouan, nieces and nephews and many special friends. Ouy was preceded in death by his son, Bounmy “Lance”, five brothers, and two sisters.

A Buddhist ceremony will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. Cremation will follow and a private burial of the urn will be at Glendale Cemetery at a later date.
