Service Details

Dick was born January 29, 1932 in Hillsboro, Iowa and raised by his grandmother. He earned a degree in Journalism at the University of Iowa and served in the Korean War. Following military service, he began a 30-year career at Bankers Life (Principal) where he met and married his one and only true love Elinor Arnold. Dick and Elinor had two daughters whom they cherished. After retirement, Dick and Elinor embarked on many adventurous East Coast road trips procuring antique treasures for their store, Elinor’s Wood’n Wares in Valley Junction, which they joyfully operated for 32 years.

Dick and Elinor were inseparable during their 58 years together and reveled in each other’s company until Elinor’s passing in September, 2016.

Dick remained living independently in the home of his eldest daughter, Julie and her husband, Mike Ballard. There he shared his remaining happy years living for his family of two daughters, Julie (Mike) Ballard and Lori Meugniot; granddaughters, Melissa Berzett and Carmen Straughn; great-granddaughter, Journey Berzett; and his loyal dog and companion, Charlie.

Dick was an authentically gentle, thoughtful, funny, gracious and devoted family man. His family is forever blessed by his strength of character and unconditional love.

There are no services at this time. Donations may be made to Taylor House Hospice for providing compassion and comfort in Dick’s last few days of grace on Earth. Condolences at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
