David Loren Twedt, 83, passed away at home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on January 14, 2019. He was born February 13, 1935, in Roland, Iowa, to Leonard and Mamie Twedt.

David graduated from Roland High School in 1953 where he proudly played basketball and baseball for the Roland Rockets. Following graduation, he farmed for one year before serving in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He later graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. David was united in marriage to Mary Boten on June 10, 1956, at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland, IA.

David made a career as an accountant for Maytag Co. in Newton for 35 years, retiring in 1996. He also worked for John Thomas for 25 years during tax season.

David was active in the Newton community and was a member of the VFW, the Elks Lodge where he served as Treasurer, and the Newton Community Theater where he served one year as President. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church in Newton where he performed several duties such as Treasurer, council member, and usher.

David enjoyed golfing and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s numerous athletic events and concerts over the years. Above all else, David cherished his family and their time spent together. He and Mary moved to Altoona in 2009 to be closer to their beloved grandchildren and joined Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny.

David is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Twedt; daughter, Kathryn (David) McClelland and their children, Ryan David and Kay Lauren; niece, Jerilynn Klaver of Ames; nephew, James (Sonjia) Michaelson of Eldora. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael David; sisters, Lois Michaelson and Ione Twedt; as well as a brother and sister, Stanley and Verna Twedt, in infancy.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny, with a memorial service to begin at 11:00 a.m.

In loving memory of David, memorial contributions will be received by the family for a future designation.
