Edward Eugene Brown

Edward Eugene Brown, 93, passed away January 10, 2019 at home. Visitation will be held Friday, January 18 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, and the funeral service on Saturday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church, 1240 66th St in Windsor Heights, IA with burial at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Edward was born in 1925 to Harold and A. Geneva Brown in Ashland, OH. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard and sister, Harriett. Following service in the US Navy, where he was part of Admiral Byrd’s Antarctic exploratory contingency, he graduated from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA with a degree in Economics, then entered Trinity Seminary, Columbus, OH, graduating with a Masters of Divinity in 1952.

He married Marilyn L. Wurm on August 29, 1952. Together they served St Peter Lutheran in New Lebanon, OH, Peace Lutheran Church in Southfield, MI and St. John Lutheran in Des Moines, IA. Edward stated many times that he could not have imagined a better life than one spent in the ministry. Upon their retirement, Marilyn and Ed visited multiple foreign countries and settled in Des Moines.

He is survived by a daughter, Candace (Marvin) McNabb; son, Tim (Lori) Brown; grandchildren, Rachel (Benjamin) Cerra, Rebecca (Christopher Sembower) Schumacher, Corey McNabb, Christine Brown and Erica (Parth) Joshi-Brown; and four great-grandchildren.
