Chris and family,
I am shocked and saddened to learn of Rod's death and can't believe he was taken from you and this world at such a young age. I was a good friend and classmate of Rod's in Waverly and have many fond memories of our friendship from grade school all the way to Ellsworth. One of the things I remember in our senior year of high school, we were at a Halloween party and on a scavenger hunt. One of the items on the list was a sign and we took a realtor's "for sale" sign with full intentions of returning it after the party, but the police saw the whole thing and questioned us. He took all of our names and when he asked Rod his name, the policeman recognized he was on the basketball team and released him along with the rest of us, except Jim Mango, who was taken into custody. We had a good laugh on that one. He was a great guy and I will miss seeing him at our next class reunion.
My sincerest sympathy to the entire Winkelman family. May your memories sustain you.

I am so sorry to learn of Rodney's passing. I had the privilage of growing up with Rodney in Wavery, Iowa. We were Little League teamates, golfing buddies, and very close friends thru High School. I even purchased the Winkelman's 1954 Chevrolet when we graduated from High School. Summers with Rod growing up were simply the best! My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with Rodney's wife and children, as well as Rod's parents, brother and sister. Jim Mango

To the Winkelman family:
I am shocked and saddened with your loss. Rod was my supervisor for a couple of years in the Claims Department back in the early 1990's. He was and is a great man! One of the best people I have ever had the privilege of working for! He will be greatly missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to the family.
Rod hired me at EMC approximately 15 years ago. He was my immediate supervisor for a number of those years. He was an extrodinary person,we enjoyed visiting about our children. Jessica and Jayson are the same age as my daughters. I also learned a lot about life and insurance from Rod. We got our CPCU at the same time and attended a few insurance classes together.
He will be missed by many, and I will always remember what he has meant to me.
I am sorry for you loss. My prayers and thoughts will be with you through this difficult time.

My deepest sympathies go to your family on the loss to your husband and father.
I worked for many years with Rod in the claims department. He was my supervisor for a number of years, and I learned much from him about insurance and also life. He was very proud of his children and wife. We would always talk about our kids and what they were doing.
He and I were part of a lunch gang where we solved many problems of the world. I always respected him, and am very sorry he passed away too young. I have many great memories of his time at EMC. He was one of my favorite people.
My sympathy is with you in this time of loss and grief.

I cannot believe Rodney is gone. I know God is the midst of our pain and will comfort you as he is me. May God draw all of us closer to Him as we prepare to bid Rod farewell.
Even though life has taken Rodney and I in different directions Rodney was near and dear to me. As his sister I am trying to remember some childhood stories to share with you. However, Rod was such a good little boy it is hard to tattle on him too much. He did always check himself into the bathroom when it was his turn to help me with the dishes and sing and sing and sing hymns.
Mom says he played ball from day one. That is what I remember to; Rodney and sports. Mr. Jock.
Another painful time was when Rodney left for Vietnam. I remember that clearly.
We were all so happy when he returned safely.
He was a wonderful brother as I know he was your father and husband. Most of all he was so delighted to be a grandpa. Rylee was #1 in all our conversations since she was born. Praise God he had such a great time with her, even if it was short.
Love you all and will share in your sorrow. Judy
