Becky Lynn Rice

Service Details

Becky Lynn Rice (Ray) was born July 18, 1958. She was the third of six children. Becky passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 28, 2019 after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. Cancer is an ugly and boring thing and we won’t mention it again here.

Becky had a very kind and generous heart and often thought about the happiness of others first. Her daughter, Chastina, was her greatest accomplishment and brought her exceptional joy. Becky loved spending time with family and traveling later in life. She especially enjoyed trips to the Florida gulf coast and the mountains of Maine. She once climbed Mount Gorham in Maine’s Acadia National Park and later that day when remembering the view was moved to tears.

Becky was a talented and well-respected graphic artist in the Des Moines area. She worked for Type-O-Graphics Two for many years before starting her own successful business, Insight Graphics, in 2009. With this Becky proved her courage, talent and determination.

She is survived by her daughter, Chastina (Joshua) Chandler and her grand-dog, Lucy; her mother, Lavola Ray; siblings, Cindy (James) Dick, Debbie (John) Skarda, Clyde Ray, Randy Bortell, Kaycee (Terry) Schippers; and many special nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews who all called her “Aunt Becky.” She loved them all with great love and devotion.

Becky was preceded in death by her grandmother, aunts and uncles, and a few dear friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joshua Lukenbill, Dr. Mark Westberg, and UnityPoint Home Hospice for the excellent care they provided.

Per her wishes, a celebration of life is being held the evening of Thursday, July 18th from 5 to 8 pm at The Des Moines Embassy Club, 520 Market Street in West Des Moines. All who knew her are welcome to attend.

Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Becky to the John Stoddard Cancer Center.
