A Life Remembered…

Judith (Judy) Ann (Cherry) Telford of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away peacefully on May 31, 2019 at Unity Point/Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Judy was born October 5, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa to Darryel and Lila Cherry. On September 14, 1974, she married Scott V. Telford and they were blessed with two children and 4 grandchildren. Judy retired in 2014 from her position as Administrative Assistant at McGowen, Hurst, Clark & Smith, P.C. in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Judy will forever be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and grace-filled woman who lived her faith daily. She was a culinary artist who cherished family gatherings, especially around her dining room table or delivering her newest culinary creation to her family and friends. She also had a special affection for her beloved canines (Buffy, Darby and Sophie). The void of her “presence” in the lives of her family and friends will be forever felt, but she will never be forgotten.

She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Scott Telford of West Des Moines, IA; daughter, Emily Avgenackis and son-in-law Eugene Velednitsky of North Liberty, IA; son, Greg Telford and daughter-in-law Molly Telford of Thousand Oaks, CA; and her 4 precious grandchildren whom she adored, and who will remember her fondly as “Grandma”: Emma and Jacob Avgenackis and Lila and James Telford. Judy is further survived by her mother, Lila Mae Cherry of West Des Moines, IA; brothers, David Cherry (Bobbi) of Elijay, GA, Joe Cherry (Annie) of Johnston, IA, and John (Liddy) Cherry of West Des Moines, IA; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, many dear friends and her faith family at Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Des Moines, IA. Judy was preceded in death by her beloved father, Darryel Cherry, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Unity Point/Iowa Methodist Hospital and Younkers Rehabilitation for their loving, caring and compassionate care.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29th at 11:00 am at Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Des Moines, Iowa with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Judy’s name to:
