Josephine Louise Sherbo O'Neil Lawrence

Josephine “Jo” Louise Sherbo O’Neil Lawrence, 92, passed away June 7, 2019 at the Iowa Jewish Home. Services will be held Thursday, June 13 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA at 12:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Jo will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery with her husband, James Joseph O’Neil.

Jo was born September 25, 1926 at her parent’s home in Valley Junction West Des Moines, IA. She graduated from Valley High School and worked as an Administrative Assistant for Meredith Corporation and the balance of her career as a legal secretary. Jo married Joe O’Neil in 1953 and the couple was blessed with their daughter, Bridget. Joe died in 1965 and Jo remarried in 1969 to George Lawrence. The family moved to Cleveland, OH where Jo lived until returning to Des Moines in 2015.

She is survived by her daughter, Bridget O’Neil Tasler and her husband, Steve; grandsons, Tim and Dan Tasler; sister-in-law, Barbara Sherbo; step-daughter, Annette Lawrence Robson and her husband Terry; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, George and Anna Sherbo; her brother, George Sherbo, Jr.; her sister, Margaret Davitt; and husband, James Joseph O’Neil.
