Dorothy Elizabeth Halliburton, 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 30, 2019. Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th St, Des Moines with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Dorothy was born to Ernest and Catherine Flowers on April 17, 1930 in Wilson, North Carolina. Dorothy and her family moved to Portsmouth, Virginia when she was a young child where she enjoyed growing up near the ocean and mountains. She met her future husband Tommy at a dance sponsored by the USO on the naval aircraft carrier USS Midway and they married and moved to Des Moines.

Dorothy enjoyed life. She loved to travel, dance, make new friends and smile! Dorothy enjoyed and appreciated the good times and wonderful friends at the South Side Senior Center. As a young convert to the Catholic faith, her church family was very dear to her – first St. Joseph Catholic Church and more recently Christ the King. Most precious to her was being surrounded by the love of her large and growing family – they were her whole world.

Left to mourn her loss is her son, Thomas (Lucy) Halliburton; daughters, Mary Kay (Dennis) Seward; Teresa (Steven) Jones; Susan Halliburton; Judy Halliburton; and Brenda (Jay) Strauss; 17 grandchildren, Tracey Lloyd, Anna Marie Seward (Tim) Schneider; Lisa Lloyd; Dennis Seward, Jr.; Cort Halliburton; Ryan (Angela) Jones; Nicholas (Kelly) Lloyd; Abigail Jones (Lou) Oborny; Joe Wiemann; Caroline Jones (Erik) Roush; Derek Seward; Angela Strauss (Brandon) Benfield; Olivia Jones; Alis Holmes (Jimi) Resendez; Benjamin (Amberlyn) Jones; Spencer Jones; and Rachel Strauss; 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy; daughters, Vickie Lynn Halliburton and Marilyn Lloyd; granddaughter, Saralynn Seward; sister, Edna Lily and son-in-law, Joseph Lloyd.
