Sydney Marie Burke

Sydney Marie Burke was born March 12, 2019 to Jason and Alicia Burke. She was lovingly nicknamed “Birdie” because of the way she would drink her milk and her fluffy soft hair. Sydney opened her eyes when she would hear her mommy and daddy’s voices. She was just learning to sit up and play with her rattle. She was finding her voice, learning to coo and working on her cry. She was really good at giving the “side eye” and making the face like Grumpy Cat. She especially loved being held and snuggled.

Sydney was given her angel wings on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Children’s Hospital in Omaha at 6 months and 2 days old. She was a strong fighter since the day she was born and her family is so proud of her strength and bravery. Sydney brought so much joy and hope, and touched the lives of many people.

She will be lovingly remembered by her mommy and daddy, Alicia and Jason, her big sister, Harper, her paternal grandparents Doug and Maureen Burke, her maternal grandparents Kim and Dennis Smith, and Kelvin and Kathrina Zieser, and other loving family and friends.

We are so thankful for the time we had with her, even though it will never feel like enough. Sydney will never be forgotten. We miss her and love her so much. We find peace that she is no longer suffering and can now rest comfortably and play freely.

There will be a public visitation on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A private family service will be held on Friday with burial at Rising Sun Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Sing Me To Heaven, Sleeping Angels, Help A Heart, Tori's Angels, or directly to the family so that they can pay it forward in appreciation of all the care and support they received during Sydney’s life.
