Shirley Norris, 86, passed away peacefully from this life to her heavenly home, surrounded by her loving family on November 2, 2019 at the Urbandale Health Care Center.

Shirley was born October 3, 1933 in Clinton, Iowa to Maurice and Helen Detlefsen. She was a seamstress for 30 years, working for JC Penney and Von Maur doing alterations. She loved music, especially old hymns. Shirley enjoyed sewing, quilting and her vegetable and flower gardens. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Shirley is survived by her children, Diane Krause, Daniel (Bernadine) Norris and Denise (Matthew) Sellers; grandchildren, Courtney (Ben) Jones, Carrie (Tom) Kefford, Caitlin Krause, Nathan Norris, Chelsea Norris, Jessica (Zach) Pettey, Rebecca Norris, Nicholas (Mayela) Norris, Rachel Norris, Joshua Norris, Renee (Tim) McCloud and David (Jill) McConnell; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Deloris; brother, Richard (Linda) Detlefsen; foster siblings, Judy, Geneva and Mike; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Norris; two brothers and two sisters.

A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2019 at Grace Church, 4200 East 25th Street in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Shirley.
