Mary Jo (Nelson) Sigmund, 73, passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2020. She was born February 20, 1947, to Walter and Louise Michael.
Mary Jo enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, trips to Meskwaki and visiting garage sales. She always had her eye out for a good bargain. Mary Jo most enjoyed playing card games and Yahtzee with her family and friends. She had a knack for remembering the rules to old card games that others had forgotten.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Jeff Nelson; stepchildren, Charles (Kelly) Sigmund, William Sigmund, Alan (Anna) Sigmund, Larry (Kay) Sigmund and Susan Maness; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Mike Michael, Michelle (Sonny) Burton, Wally (Carl) Schneider, Cris (Paul) Edwards; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her sister, Judy; and stepson, Brian Sigmund.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St. SW, Altoona with visitation an hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Franklin Township Cemetery in Santiago.

Susan, will you please share by condolences to your Dad. He was one of my brother Larry's best friends growing up. Actually my parents were old friends of your grandparents, and all of us kids grew up as friends. I will pass this on to my brothers. Again, I am so sorry your Dad has gone through this twice.

I knew Mary in the early 90s. I worked next door to where she lived and she welcomed me into her life and was so loving and supportive. We enjoyed fishing, playing games and garage sale shopping together. She was a wonderful woman and I am truly blessed to have known her. I'm so sorry for your great loss.
