Evelyn Laura Jones, 71, earned her wings on Monday, August 3rd, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Evelyn was born on April 25th, 1949 to Frank and Laura Vasey in Des Moines, Iowa.

Evelyn received her high school education from North High School in Des Moines, Iowa and worked at Aramark, Tone’s Spices, and Nationwide throughout her lifetime. She married the love of her life, Gordon Jones, and enjoyed his companionship until his passing in 1997. They share two daughters, Teresa and Amy, who were their pride and joy.

Her life was one of selfless service and unconditional love. She was truly devoted to her family and friends. She would give anything she had to help others. Her kind heart, loving and giving nature, humbleness, and gentle soul will be missed by all who knew her.

Evelyn enjoyed watching The Golden Girls and Lifetime, making lasagna and fudge, going to the Iowa State Fair and Italian-American Heritage Festival of Iowa, garage selling, camping, shopping at Graziano Brothers, going to Prairie Meadows, and most importantly, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her daughters Teresa (Mark) Jones-Negrete and Amy (Kelly Williams) Jones; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and baby Hudson on the way; sisters, May (John) Watson and Betty Dominguez; brothers, Carl (Ardie) Vasey, Winfred Vasey, Harold (Darlene) Vasey, George (Connie) Vasey, Hank (Becky) Vasey, Frank Vasey, and Roy Vasey.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Jones; parents Frank and Laura Vasey; brothers Fred Vasey and baby boy.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 10th, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral service will begin immediately after visitation at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Face masks are required.
