Service Details

Hartford ‘H.B.’ Worley, 75, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Hospice in Johnston, surrounded by his children.

H.B. was born on June 21st 1945 in Trenton, MO to Hartford and Virginia Worley. His father, Hartford the II, died honorably as a casualty of the Battle of the Bulge in World War II before H.B. was born. H.B. spent his early childhood living at his grandparent’s in Jamesport, MO, with his mom and siblings. His grandparents were positive influences, and H.B. remembered them as kind Christian people. H.B. was raised on a farm near Hamilton, MO, and learned a strong work ethic. He graduated from Kemper Military School in Boonville, MO. He was grateful for the education and experience, and discovered a love of boxing there.

After graduating from Kemper, H.B. welded for a family business. He later moved to Northern Iowa and lived with his brother, Ron, and worked in an auto body shop. H.B. ended up welding farm equipment for the Haack family, which is how he met his wife, Linda Haack. H.B. and Linda were married June 20th, 1970 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew, Iowa. They moved to Huxley, and then Colfax, before settling in Minburn in 1978 to raise their family and develop life-long friendships. H.B. worked as an insurance claims adjuster for the majority of his career. The industry introduced him to one of his dearest friends and provided him the opportunity to travel much of the country.

H.B.’s goofy sense of humor paired with his unwavering love and support made him so well-loved by friends and family alike. He was a gifted story-teller, and enjoyed telling stories about many things, including family history that his brother documented. He looked forward to reading the daily news, enjoyed watching the history channel, gathering with friends and family, and never passed on his favorite candy, Cherry Mash, that was produced near where he grew up. He loved foot rubs, especially from his daughters and grandkids, and appreciated the beauty of nature.

H.B. is survived by his brother; Ronald Worley, sons; Scott Worley and Chris (Sally) Worley, and daughters; Nicole (Ron) Short and Kari (Justin) Lantz, as well as seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. H.B. was preceded in death by his wife; Linda Sue Worley, father; Hartford B. Worley II, mother; Virginia Lea Worley Lavelock, and sister; Beverly Campbell.
