Service Details

Mary Brandenburg died of natural causes on Jan 21 at Trinity Center at Luther Park. She was born Oct 21, 1924 in Burlington, Iowa to Clarence and Lucille Wick. A service for family and friends will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mary graduated from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa where she received a degree in Music Education. She worked as a music teacher in a number of communities throughout Iowa and Illinois, and later as a social worker for the Area Agency on Aging in Iowa. After retirement, she worked part time at the Iowa Genealogical Society where she developed a strong interest in genealogy. Other interests included music, painting, reading, politics and spending time with family and friends. She attended Unity Church of Des Moines.

Mary married Bill Brandenburg in 1949 in Coon Rapids. She is survived by children Grant (Lisa) Brandenburg, Colorado, and Jean Brandenburg, Oregon; three grandchildren Jaden (Tiffany) Houck, Colorado, Kaylin Brandenburg, Colorado, and Lanae Brandenburg, Texas; and one great grandchild Landon Houck, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two children, Teresa and Steven.
