Genevieve “Sis” Mihalovich, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Cory Grove Cemetery east of Elkhart.

Jennie was born January 12, 1918 in White Oak, Iowa the daughter of George and Blanche (Ault) Longnecker. She worked for Look Magazine, which later became CDS Publishing, retiring after 45 years of faithful service. Jennie enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk as well as her daily soap operas, especially Young and the Restless. She also enjoyed all aspects of politics, initiating many discussions with family and friends throughout her lifetime. Jennie enjoyed girls’ basketball, even playing in her younger years. She was a trailblazer for women, ahead of her time in pioneering for women’s equality.

Jennie is survived by her son, John (Diane) Mihalovich; daughter-in-law, Annette Mihalovich; grandchildren, Zach Mihalovich, Jason Mihalovich, Heather (Jason) Heidt and Jennifer Ashby; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Wes (Dorothy), Raymond (Dorothy), George Jr. (Nora) and Jerry (Sandy) Longnecker; sister Ruth Scharnweber; many nieces, nephews and her special friend, Darlene Martin. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis; her son, Mike; her parents; siblings, Charlie, Lawrence, Archie, Clyde, Guy, Ed and Vera Longnecker and Donna Baker.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Capitol Hill Christian Church in loving memory of Jennie.
