Thomas Thompson

Thomas A. Thompson, 71, passed away at his home on December 27, 2023.

Thomas was born May 5, 1952, in Des Moines to Thomas and Mildred “Midge” (Robbins) Thompson. Thomas graduated from Dowling High School in 1970. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Thomas was deployed to Diego Garcia to build runways for fighter jets to refuel before Vietnam, two tours in Antarctica where he helped build a Geodesic dome- which is now in the Smithsonian Museum, and his last deployment was in Bermuda. Thomas returned to Des Moines to start his family and career as a journeyman painter. He eventually retired from Meredith Corporation.

Thomas loved hunting, bird watching, gardening, music, and woodworking. During his retirement, he found his love of riding his Harley-Davidson.

Thomas is survived by his sons: Chad, TJ (Brandi), Troy (Carrie), Toby (Carissa), Alan, and his daughter in law, Stephanie. 11 grandchildren: Nathan, Taylor Marie, Delaini, Tripp, Eli, Joey, Bailey, Joseph, Tatiana, Aliyah, and Isaiah. Along with one great grandchild, Oliver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jeffrey Adam, and son, Taylor Benjamin.

Thomas will be laid to rest with military honors May 13th at 11:00am at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
