Bertha J. Brown

Mrs. Bertha Brown, 73, was born, with an identical twin who shared the same sac, on April 5, 1939 to Tubie Warren and Annie Crow in Louisiana. She was at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 when Our Lord and Master called her home.

Bertha was a very educated woman who self taught herself in a variety of areas. She was a wonderful horticulturist and landscaper who had a green thumb. She loved to garden and tend to her flowers. Her greatest love was that of being a mother who never cut her apron strings. She was a true mother that liked to fish, listen to B.B. King, and spent time with peoples. Her most enjoyable moments came from simply being a mom.

Bertha is survived by her children, Dianne (Steve) Taylor, Walter Brown, Larry (Rodlynn) White, Thomas E. Brown, Thomas Wayne Brown, Denise (Tommy) Gaines; brothers, Joseph Warren and Thomas Jefferson; sisters, Christine Radford and Jimmie Lane; grandson, Lindsey Scott; friend, Daisy Holmes; step-children, Kaye Delvert, Jackie Sysco, and William Page; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivory Walter Brown; mother, Annie Lee Johnson; brothers, Linzie Jefferson, Cleon Warren and Jessie Warren; father, Tubie Warren; son, Robert Brown; twin sister, Berta Smith; great-granddaughter, Darshina Wilson; great-great-granddaughter, Shanadria “Precious” Hamer; step-daughter, Joetta Denner; and long time companion, Lewis Page.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
