Service Details
Services for Emily, who died Thursday, December 27, 2012, will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 12:00 p.m., at West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 3, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA, from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Jordan Cemetery in West Des Moines, IA.
Emily was born on May 25, 1987, in Sioux City, IA, to Kellie and Rod Weikert. She graduated with honors from Valley High School and Iowa State University. After graduation Emily moved to Colorado and worked for CoBank. She had a zest for life, with a joy of travel and various activities. She belonged to Toastmasters, enjoyed golfing, skiing, and spending time with her family and friends. She was also a talented violin player and was a member of the Iowa State Orchestra while in college.
Emily is survived by her parents, Kellie and Rod Weikert; her brother, Joel Weikert; grandparents, Merle and Norma Oakes; aunts, Debie (Ernie) Cain and Marla (Randy) Pence; uncles, David Oakes and Jerry Weikert; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roy and Betty Weikert.

I have followed it from the beginning and sadly, I still dont know what Emily died from. Am I being rude in asking you now? Im just so invested in how wonderful she mustve been, because so many people had wonderful things to say about her. She was a remarkable Young woman. Thank you for sharing her with the world.. Today I was talking with a friend whom I worked with at Apple in the late 80s and early 90s. Kellie was our teams great Admin. I was shocked, horrified and heartbroken to find out about Emily from my friend. Emily was just a little girl back then. I had no idea she was taken from her family and it breaks my heart to read the story behind this heinous act of violence. Although this occurred nearly ten years ago, the pain of losing such a beautiful young woman who was loved by so many leaves me numb. My heart is heavy and my prayers go out to Kellie and her entire family. Keep looking up, God is always with you and Emily.

Emily was a very special person, and we are heartbroken and devastated. She was a pure joy to work with in our dean's office - the entire staff loved her. She was always upbeat, extremely professional, and had such an endearing and engaging personality and presence. Emily will always remain in our memories and hearts. It is hard to find the words to express the deep sadness. My heart breaks with you. I met Emily at the Presidio apartments when we both first moved to Denver. I will never forget all the great memories we made exploring all the new things that Colorado has to offer! What a wonderful, kind, fun and adventurous person Emily was. Dear Weikert Family and Friends,
Words cannot express the sadness I feel for the loss of Emily. I had the privilege of working with her at CoBank after she took a permanent position in the Energy and Water Services group. I cannot remember a single conversation we had that she did not make me laugh, and her sweet attitude was contagious. It was hard to have a bad day when Emily was around.
Although there is no way to replace what has been taken, I take comfort in knowing the tremendous positive impact Emily had on everyone around her will be her legacy. I also have the faith to know that the separation due to mortal death is only temporary and that we will ultimately have the opportunity to be reunited with our loved ones. My prayer is these may also give some measure of peace to Emilys family and friends.

There are few words that can one can say that can help ease pain at times like these. The words I do have are those in memory of Emily. I admired her adventurous spirit and contagious smile. I looked forward to her coming into the salon for haircuts and hearing about her overseas adventures and life experiences.

My deepest condolences to the Weikert family. I had the pleasure of working with and training Emily as she rotated through the Collateral Audit group at CoBank in 2011 before she headed to Sacramento. I was impressed with her attitude, intelligence and outgoing personality. Emily was like a ray of sunshine and always brightened any room she entered. Heaven is shining brighter because of her.
