John Hansl, 82, of Des Moines was born on January 21, 1925 in Donji Miholjac, Croatia formerly known as Yugoslovia. He was the son of Johann and Eva Kaucic Hansl. John moved to Austria after WWII and married Anna Hansl on September 15, 1951. He and Anna had two children Anne Marie and Hans Peter. In 1955 the family moved to Des Moines where John spent the rest of his life.
He was an active member of the Lincoln Heights Lutheran Church and a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union. He enjoyed gardening, making wine with grapes grown in his backyard, woodworking and spending time with his family. On June 29, 2007 he died at the Fleur Heights Care Center of heart failure.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 3rd at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday evening, July 2nd from 3-8 P.M. and the family will greet friends from 5-8 P.M.
He is survived by his daughter Anne Marie Hansl of Des Moines, his son H. Peter Hansl and his wife Glenda of Euless, Texas, his grandchildren Brian Orozco, Renee Orozco and David John Hansl all of Texas as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna Hansl on June 10, 2002.
