Sandra J. "Sandy" Huebner

Service Details

Sandra Jean (Puffett) Huebner passed away peacefully, holding the hand of her son, Timothy, and the hand of our Lord, on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. She was born on December 8, 1943, in Oelwein, Iowa, to John and Luetta Puffett.

Sandy was raised on a farm, and her love for the farm life never diminished. She would often tell stories about raising pigs and chickens, and even trapping various critters and selling their pelts for pocket money.

She met her husband Gary at a small drive-in restaurant near Backbone State Park in the summer of ’61 where she worked as a waitress. It was love at first sight, and they were inseparable for the next 48½ years.

In 1968, the couple adopted Timothy. He became the lucky recipient of Sandy’s endless wellspring of love. Sandy’s daily goal was to spoil her son and husband every day with love and affection, a goal that she met and surpassed for nearly 49 years.

Although her primary passion was her family, Sandy found time for a career as a legal secretary. As if that wasn’t enough, Sandy turned a house into a home that any who visited would comment that they felt welcomed and loved.

Cooking for her family and friends was always a passion for Sandy. Comfort foods and farm-style cooking were her specialties. Sandy had a way of infecting everyone she met with love and laughter. She refused to let her personal pains get in the way of sharing her love, laughter, and faith in God.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Gary; her sister, Karen; her son, Timothy; ,two grandchildren, Aleah and Alex; and five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Luetta; and her sister, Yvonne.

Services will be held at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Family will greet friends prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, IA (www.hopewdm.org).
