George "Mike" Leach, Sr.

George “Mike” Leach, Sr. was born October 14, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Wendell and Pauline Leach. Mike was a strong willed man with a great sense of humor. He always enjoyed spending time with his family. Mike liked to tinker with electronics and work in his yard. His CB handle was Eastside Joker. Mike was a lifelong Eastsider and co-owned Leach Brothers Construction.

Mike passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston at the age of 64.

Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Tarter-Leach; sisters, Judy Conn and Patricia Leach; brother, Dwayne Leach; sons, George “Mike” Leach, Jr. (Michelle), Danny Leach (Renee), and Jerry Leach (Hope); step-sons, Clement Vestal and David Vestal; step-daughters, Teresa Basham and Marian Way; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wendell “Butch” Leach.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, also at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
