Yvonne Pope

Yvonne Pope of Urbandale joined her husband and parents in heaven July 28, 2014 after a long battle with cancer.

Yvonne was born on December 22, 1938, the oldest child of Orlin and Lila Sorber of Perry. She graduated with honors from Perry high school in 1956.

She married Richard (Dick) Pope in 1958 and together they raised two children, Scott (Alison) Pope of Adel and Julie (Bob) Parsons of Johnston. Julie and Bob’s daughter Katelyn was her only grandchild and the apple of Grandma’s eye.

Yvonne and Dick traveled extensively during retirement often taking Katelyn along to see the world.

She was also an active member of PEO Chapter HX, loved playing golf, and visiting with friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her children and granddaughter; as well as her brother, Ron (Judy) Sorber of Perry; and sister, Dianna (Terry) Murphy of Urbandale; and many nieces and nephews.

Yvonne was aided in her fight with the loving care of nurses, aides and staff from Hospice of Central Iowa dba HCI Care Services. Special compassion and care was provided by Cyndi, Jill and Becky who became like sisters to her during her final years.

The family would also like to give special thanks to the wonderful nurses and aides at Bright Kavanagh House who made her final weeks as comfortable as possible.

Funeral services have been set for Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation one hour preceding the service. The family asks that memorials be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa or the Animal Rescue League.
