Charles Callen Clarkson was born in 1937 to Chet and Golda Clarkson in Des Moines, Iowa and died Wednesday, August 13, 2014. He was married to Kathleen Joan Boys January 25, 1958. Charles said it was a unique experience to have been married to such a beautiful, kind, and talented woman as he found in his wife, Kathleen, for 56 years. Charles enjoyed serving the Lord in different capacities at various churches: North Acres Chapel, Boone Biblical Church, First Assembly, and Metro A.O.G.

Charles was proud of being in the military. He saw many places in the world he otherwise wouldn’t have seen. He had 28 years 7 months in Iowa National Guard. He enjoyed his job at the Combined Support Maintenance Shop. He enjoyed being the father of his nine children and grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was proud of them all. Each one is very unique in their own way.

In addition to his wife, Kathleen, Charles is survived by his children who in order of their arrival are: Melea Adler (Kirk) and their sons, Stephen and Brandon; Gina Kramer (Lynn) and their children, Sheena (Sharmil) and Jason (Stephanie); Rhonda Brown; Daniel Clarkson and his daughter, Ashley; Andrea Martin (David) and their children, Audrey, D.J., and Micah; Jonathon Clarkson (Kim) and their children, Gabriel, Alex, Tad, Brittney, Courtney, and Jarred; Thomas Clarkson (Misty) and their children, Brianna, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Amber, Ethan, and Elias; David Clarkson (Mindy) and their sons, David Joel Jr. and Kenan; and Kalena Clarkson. Charles, Kathleen, and their family have continued to be blessed by the addition of seven great-grandchildren: Chloe H., Julie H., Chloe S., Cassidy S., Darien B., Danielle B., and Pierre B.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 18 at New Life Center, 1031 23rd Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Iowa Veteran Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Monday following the funeral.

It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to the family.
