Dr. Lorenzo Jasso, 61, was born March 6, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Beatriz (Garza) and Lorenzo Jasso. He passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 8, 2014.
Lorenzo was a man of great knowledge. He graduated from Indiana University with a teacher’s degree then continued his education at Drake University where he received his doctorate in education. Lorenzo worked many years as a principal for Des Moines Public Schools. He loved cruising around in his Corvette, gardening, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Las Americas Catholic Church.
Lorenzo is survived by his loving wife Victoria Jasso, his son Felix, grandchildren Madelyn and Samuel, all of Des Moines, and his pet dog Bella. Lorenzo is also survived by his mother Beatriz of Illinois, two sisters Gina and Lupe of Indiana, and three brothers Mike and Jamie of Des Moines and Richie of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Per Lorenzo’s wishes, no services will be held and cremation has occurred.

Sam, I am in shock, have been living in Mexico and unfortunately did not keep up with you. I am saddened that you have left us. However your smile and that last time we were able to get together in Des Moines in 2002 and your graciousness will never be forgotten. Loved the Iowa state fair you took us to and I remember fondly our times at Indiana University. My condolences to your wife and family.

My prayers are with the family during this difficult time. Lorenzo was a great friend and supported me in my feeble attempts to learn Spanish. His heart was as large as the ocean. I recall the time as a new principal I needed help with a small frightened student that was at the wrong school trying to catch the correct bus. My Spanish was horrible ! I reached out to Lorenzo for help in translation. He drove across town that morning to speak to the student and to make him feel safe. However, he also took time with me as well. He wanted to calm me down and encouraged me to learn more than "hello" in Spanish. We laughed many times about that day. We became friends for life. My heart is heavy , but my memories are many and filled with the laughter that we shared so many times. He will be missed.

Lorenzo and I were colleagues for many years from the time we did substitute teaching to our time as principals. He was a very calm, kind person. He loved his family. We often had conversations about Felix whom I had taught at Weeks.
The world has another angel. However, those of us left behind are saddened by his passing.

My sincere pesames to his family.I meet Dr Jasso when we moved to our new home.i when to mckenly to register my son ,i was very happy to see information in spanish,and,the enviroment was very welcoming,to minority,He offer to help us, and he did..It seem to me that everybody like him. My family really enjoy that time we were able to share with him as a Principal.Metting him was a great pleasure, his was a great leader for our latino comunnity.He will always be remembered!!!!

I worked with Lorenzo for 12 years while we were principals in Des Moines. He was a true friend. He could always be counted on to think "outside the box" -- and to find the humor in any situation. He will not be forgotten. The world is a better place because he was here. We were all lucky to have known him.

Hello, I would like to express my sadness to all of Lorenzo's family and friends. I worked with Lorenzo when he was assigned to King/Perkins Schools. Lorenzo was a man of virtues and values. He stayed close to his roots. Lorenzo had a good heart and a great smile. He was very "easy going" and play full in his style of working with children... Lorenzo was always polite and respectful in the work place...I shall always remember our bike rides to Saylorville Lake as well...I experienced Lorenzo as trustworthy and reliable... I regret that I did not extend myself to have more conversations with Lorenzo as his career progressed...Lorenzo made a difference. I can only encourage all of you to carry on his work and beliefs in both family and community..."May His Memory Be Eternal"...Blessings...

In my position at the Iowa Department of Education I had the opportunity to work with Lorenzo on issues related to equity and equality in education. I always admired the way that Lorenzo persistently, course by course, worked his way to his Doctorate Degree at Drake University. He always remembered his roots and gave back to his community as a beloved school principal in Des Moines. Dr. Jasso was a good human being who always had a smile on his face. He will be missed.

I am sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family. Lorenzo was a great man who was kind, caring, thoughtful, funny, and always a pleasure to be around. My childhood memories consist of many with your family, but one thing that has always stood out are the bike rides with Lorenzo, especially when we rode to Saylorville Lake. He was a generous man filled with integrity and character, he will be greatly missed.

I met and got to know Mr. Jasso at Fresenius while I was an intern social worker there. I am glad I got the pleasure of knowing him and talking to him passionately about his love for cars :) Thoughts and prayers are with your family! God gained another Angel!
