Lori Stoermer
December 13, 2014
Lori (Woods) Stoermer passed away December 11, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center from injuries sustained in a tragic fall at her home.
Lori was born on January 29, 1961 to Ralph and Bev Woods. She graduated from Lincoln High School, then entered the U.S. Air Force where she achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant with the Iowa Air National Guard after 20 years of service. She met and married her husband, Ron Stoermer in 1990. They each had two children from previous marriages, and merged into one big happy family.
Lori’s favorite spot in the world was at their lake home in Minnesota. Lori had been vacationing with her family there since she was a baby! She was a kind and compassionate mother, wife, daughter, and sister. She was the best baker in the family and always provided cookies, bread and cinnamon rolls on special occasions. We don’t know how our family will ever be able to fix ham for the holidays like she did!
Lori always put others ahead of herself, and had elected to be an organ donor so that others could have a chance for a better life after she passed.
Lori was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lee and Darline Howlett and George and Francis Woods. She is survived by her parents; her husband; children, Jake Madsen (fiance, Betsy), Lindsey Forget (Steve), Keith Stoermer and Danielle Wells (Chad); as well as her brother, Mike Woods (Kathy) and sister, Vicki Smith (Gene). She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Ashlyn, Lily and Alex; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Lori also cherished her relationship with her mother-in-law, Virginia Stoermer.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Ron & Family,
When I think of Lori, I cant help to think of the compassion and kindness she showed me. Lori impacted me deeply as a young Airman by showing me the compassionate side to leadership. I took the lessons I learned from Lori and applied them throughout both my military and civilian careers. America lost one its finest citizens with Loris death. I am very sorry for your loss and you all will be in my thoughts and prayers in the coming days.
