Thelma Heckathorn

Thelma Heckathorn, 66, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015. She was born February 11, 1949 to Ila Ruth (McCombs) and Gilbert Elseworth Calvert in Albia, IA.

She enjoyed watching birds and wildlife, playing bocce ball and board games, and watching a good movie. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her children, especially her best friend and daughter Sonja, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving, hard working woman with an infectious laugh and beautiful smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ila Calvert, and her brother Aaron Calvert.

She is survived by her siblings, Pat Burgett, Barb Jones, Darlene Arnold, Gib “Rich” Calvert and Dave Calvert; her daughters, Sonja (Jay) Clair and Billie Hayes (Chris Coffin); her son, Tarry (Brittany) Heckathorn; her grandchildren, Tereasa, Sara, Alyssa, TJ, Teri and Anthony; and her great granddaughters, Serenity and Jaidah.

A memorial gathering and luncheon is being held for family and friends at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines on Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Refreshments and food will be provided, and please feel free to contribute to the potluck luncheon.
