Mary Lou (Carlos) Risius was born September 24, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles and Laverta (Woodson) Carlos. She passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Mill Pond in Ankeny at the age of 77.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, also at the funeral home. Private family burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery.

Mary worked as a file clerk for IGF Insurance in West Des Moines for many years. She enjoyed sewing, needle point, crocheting, and making doll clothes. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Tom) Risius of Des Moines; sons, Russell (Karen) Risius of Altoona, Joseph (Gloria) Risius of Ankeny, and Richard (Sue) Risius of Grimes; grandchildren, Travis Ensley, Sara Fargo, and Ashley, Casey, Adam and Brandon Risius; and four great-granddaughters.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Carl in November of 2014, her brothers, William Carlos and Charles Carlos, and her parents.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, or Wounded Warrior Project.
