Douglas R. Doll, 62, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Unity Point Hospice Taylor House after a three year battle with cancer.

Douglas was born January 22, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska to Elden and Frances Doll. He was in the U.S. Coast Guard for six years. Douglas was a 30 year member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 33, where he later retired. He loved playing golf, gardening, giving away his tomatoes and peppers; watching sports and visiting with his many friends on Des Moines’ southside.

Douglas is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Terri; son, Chris; father, Elden; brother, Curtis (Susan); nephews, Brian and Eric; mother-in-law, Theresa Hager; and a host of extended family and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Doll; uncle, Ivan Doll; and his father-in-law, Lloyd Hager.

The family will greet friends Thursday, July 30, 2015 beginning at 11 a.m. with the service to follow at 12 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Douglas will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate staff on the 8th floor of Mercy Hospital and Mercy Oncology as well as, Unity Point Hospice Taylor House for the loving care Douglas received. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Raman, whom Douglas was very blessed to have as his surgeon.
