Shaun Scott Sonnenburg

Shaun Scott Sonnenburg, 41, passed away September 26, 2015 in Flagstaff, Arizona. The service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines, Iowa with visitation from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and the celebration of life at 2 p.m. Private burial will be at Lincoln Cemetery in Polk City, IA.

Shaun was born May 2, 1974 to Diane (Templeton) and Steven Sonnenburg. He graduated from Johnston High School and then became an electrician. Shaun was a humanitarian through and through who lived life to the fullest. Being an electrician and helping others gave him great pleasure. He was most recently volunteering with Greenlee Textron out of Bend, Oregon helping seniors and those less fortunate, with home improvement projects. Shaun was always finding a way to make the world a better place.
Helping his grandpa and sharing fishing excursions together was especially meaningful to Shaun, along with time at the ocean, surfing, and riding his dirt bike.

He is survived by his mother, Diane (Frank Smith) Antisdel; father, Steven Jay (Marney) Sonnenburg; sisters, Deb (Ron) Billingsley of Ralston, NE, Cris (Mike) Van Elgort of Columbia, CA, Jannelle (Mike) Hudson of Des Moines, IA; aunt, Kathy (Steve) Michelson; nieces and nephews, Jeremy and Alex Van Elgort, Barbara Billingsley, Gage Hudson; and cousin, Michele (Steve) Zamzow. Shaun was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Irene Sonnenburg, Frieda Bowman; nephew, Brayden Hudson; and his beloved dog, Champers.
