John Frye

John Frye, 89, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Fountain West Healthcare Center.
John was born June 28, 1926 in Centerville, Iowa to John and Irma Frye. He graduated from Centerville High School and served in the U.S. Navy. John moved to Des Moines and married Delores Heyland. He was hardworking and always provided for his family. John retired from Meredith as pressman after 42 years of service. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed listening to announcers Harry Caray and Ron Santo.
John is survived by his children, Dennis Frye, Mark (Carla) Frye and Brenda (Mark) Vandenberg; grandchildren, Cody (Erica) Frye and Nick Frye; great-granddaughters, Ella and Emery; brother, Jack Frye; nephew, Steve Freese; niece, Dawna Menke; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Delores “Dee” Frye and his sisters, Betty, Ruth, Gwenyth, Sally and Mary.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A time of memory sharing will start at 7 p.m. followed by the Rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m.

I got to know John when my son married Brenda. He was always a quiet man that always had a smile when I would meet him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. We always mourn the loss but rejoice in his new heavenly home.God bless all of you.
