Duane Alan Pierce, 79, was born September 29, 1936 to Roland and Marguerite Pierce. He passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015 at University Park Nursing and Rehab in Des Moines.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 23rd from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. A graveside committal service with military honors will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 24th at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Duane retired in 1973 from the U.S. Navy as Quarter Master. He was a member of the Des Moines Coin Club and was an avid genealogist. He was a passionate records keeper, selflessly donating countless hours to graves records. He meticulously documented each cemetery that is located in Polk County, Iowa. He kept records dating back to the 1700s and operated Charter Pierce Genealogical Society for 14 years.
He is survived by his daughters, Sheri (LeeRoy) Wagner of Bayard, Iowa and Linda (Doug) Lange of Des Moines, Iowa, his sisters, Phyllis Bautista of Des Moines and Carol Gordon of Florida, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Pierce and Melvin Pierce, granddaughter, Brandy Prock, sister, Marge Charter, and his parents, Roland and Marguerite Pierce.

Duane was my brother Pete's neighbor for many years. Duane would always come out to talk to me when he would see me pull in the driveway. We would mostly talk about Genealogy. That was something we could talk about for hours. The year before he sold his house he dug up some Irises, and gave to me. I will always think of him when they bloom. He sure will be missed by my entire family. Prayers sent to his family.
