Melinda (Flanigan) Irving

Melinda Irving, 47, was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, on March 14, 1968. She passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on February 9, 2016, surrounded by the love of her fiancé, Patrick, after a courageous struggle with chronic lung disease.

Melinda graduated from Ankeny High School in 1986. After graduation, she followed her passion to become a nurse and attended the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing, completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Grandview University. She worked at Broadlawns as an OB nurse for 10 years until her illness limited her career.

Melinda will be remembered for her contagious smile as well as her kind and loving personality. She never lost the sweet innocence you see in her face. Her beautiful spirit embraced all animals, family and causes. Melinda didn’t know any strangers and she was quick to treat you as a friend. She had time for everyone, as much time as you needed. If you never knew Melinda, you are still going to miss her, because the world is dimmer without her light.

Melinda is survived by her parents, Jill June and John Twedt; sisters, Colleen Flanigan and Sascha Parsons; fiancé, Patrick Heck; many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Private services will be conducted in Pennsylvania.
