David Max Stanley, age 59, died Saturday, February 27, 2016.
David is survived by his wife, Sandra; his daughter, Amy Jo VanWyk (Lee VanWyk); three granddaughters, Lilly Rae, Lea Marie, and AnnaBell VanWyk; mother, Mary Jean Stanley; and foster daughter, Samantha Ann Wolfe.
David was born October 16, 1956 in Clarinda, Iowa. He was the oldest son of Mary Jean and Patrick Stanley. He graduated from Valley High School and enlisted with the United States Air Force. He married Sandra in 1977 and was a very loving husband.
When his daughter Amy was born he became a father, but truly David was a father to many children. He fixed a lot of bikes and mentored many neighborhood children. He was a 4-H leader, volunteered for the Head Start program, became a foster parent of 5 children, mentored his nieces and nephews, served as president for a horse club and judged 4-H horse shows. He continued these traditions with his granddaughters. David was a man of character and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016

To Sandra and the rest of the Stanley Family; My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. May you find peace in your mind knowing that David is walking with angels and he has been delivered from this world into the Glory of the Kingdom of God. I know it difficult to imagine life without him physically here on earth, but take comfort in knowing that his spirit continues to thrive through your prayers and memories of him. I am so very sorry for your loss. I did not know David, but I heard a few stories from my manager, Ms. Melody Todd; who was and will remain moved by David and your family's love, encouragement, and willingness to help anyone in need. Remember please, God never leaves you during trials and tests or heartache, when you only see one set of footprints, it is then that he carried you.
