Louise I. (Voegtlin) Conn, 96, passed away on March 11, 2016. She was born in Saylor Township on October 25, 1919 to Lydia (Huser) and Hoyt J. Voegtlin. Louise attended a one room country school until the family moved to Des Moines where she graduated from North High at age 15.

She worked in retail and did clerical work until she married Lester L. Conn on June 25, 1938. They met while watching a noontime radio broadcast at the old KRNT radio station. While her husband served in the Army Air Corps in WWII, she made six cross-country train trips to be with him. After the war ended, she and Lester moved to the south side of Des Moines where they raised two daughers, Sharrie and Debra. Louise was a devoted wife and mother who spent many hours chauffeuring her family members to school and work.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharrie (Gerald) Blackburn of Des Moines and Debra (Steve) Kramer of Martell, NE; grandchildren, Jennifer Rogers of Lincoln, NE, Matthew (Holley) Rogers of Omaha, NE, and Kari (Scott) McWhorter of Vicenza, Italy; step-granddaughter, Kellie Kramer of Reasoner, IA; ten great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; sister, Kathryn Anderson; brother, Robert Voegtlin; and grandson, Michael Blackburn.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home on Thursday, March 17, 2016, with burial immediately following the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Fleur Heights Care Center for their loving care of Louise over the last eight years.
