Nancy R. (Finney) Van Dorn, 69, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at her home in Des Moines.

Nancy was born February 6, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa to Walter S. Finney Jr. and Susan M. (Parmer) Finney, and was a lifelong resident of the area. She worked as a New Products Editor for Meredith Publishing until her retirement in 2000. Nancy was a voracious reader and had an avid interest in politics. She had a love of music and her collection was varied and expansive. Nancy was highly intelligent and a bit eccentric, leaving a positive impression on those who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Trout of Omaha, NE, Delburt (Wendy) Van Dorn III of Syosset, NY, and Susannah (Christopher) Place of Des Moines, IA; her grandchildren, William (Katie) Trout, Anna Trout, Jonathon Trout, Chloe Van Dorn, Emma Van Dorn, Jackson Place, and Maxwell Place; her former spouse, Delburt Van Dorn II; and her brother, Larry (Judy) Doescher of Parker, CO.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Scott Finney III; and son-in-law, Michael Trout.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at a later date and her cremated remains will be scattered in places special to her.
