Charles Wells, 57, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center.

Charles was born September 11, 1958 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Beverly Emerson and Charleston Culberson. He graduated from William A. Wirt in Gary, Indiana and continued his education at the School of Communication Arts for Radio and Television Broadcasting in Minneapolis, MN, graduating at the top of his class. He took his passion for music and made a career in Radio as an on-air personality at radio stations in Minnesota, Indiana and Michigan as well as DJ’ing at nightclubs, skating rinks, and doing voice overs. He was a man who followed his dreams, wherever life took him he was bringing joy to all around him with the music that he played. The online music community on Mixlr meant a lot to him. He was a very family-oriented man and lived for raising his children. He was a man true to his word, and stood by his convictions. Always giving advice to his children and loved ones, passing down his wealth of knowledge and wisdom. He was trustworthy, caring, generous, and a “dad” to many.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Jacquelyne Perry-Wells; children, Maurice Wells, Crystal Wells, Melissa (Josh) Ansah, Alexandria Perry, Anthony (Jasmine) Perry, Carlos Wells, Cordero Wells, and Raven Wells; his grandchildren, Deonte, Ahman, Jaidon, Kai, Amiah, James, Tae, Larnell, Aiya, Zuri. Alina, Elijah, Trystin, Ty, Janiya; siblings, Charlene Marshall, Chester (Pokuaa) Marshall, Darrell Emerson, Kimberly Emerson, Veronica Pope, Tommy Charles (Jean) Culberson, Dorothy Williams, Betty Coleman, Marie Culberson, Shirley Culberson, and Michael Alford; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Charles was also known as the “Classic Man” to his extended DJ family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Ann Emerson; father, Charleston Culberson; grandfather, Vernon Wells; grandmother, Margaret Wells; and infant son, Charles Vernon Wells, Jr.
