Service Details

James Presly Mooberry, 96, passed away June 22, 2016 at Kenny Brook Village in Grimes, IA. Services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Burial with military honors will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA.

James was born May 1, 1920 to Grover and Elizabeth (Hutsinpiller) Mooberry on a farm northeast of Osceola, IA. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1939 and married Phyllis Muselman on June 29, 1941 in Bethany, MO. They lived in Osceola, IA until moving to Des Moines in 1955.

James enlisted in the US Navy on September 11, 1942 and was stationed at Navy Pier in Chicago; Wildwood, NJ; and on the USS Midway. He worked as an Auto Body Machinist for 36 years with Myers Ford in Osceola and Ramsey Pontiac in Des Moines. After retirement in 1983, he enjoyed restoring antiques and woodworking. He attended New Hope Assembly of God church.

He is survived by his sons, Jerry (Terri) Mooberry of Snohomish, WA and David (fiancé, Kerri) Mooberry of Urbandale; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Phyllis Mooberry; his son, James Lynn Mooberry; sister, Dorothy Kendall; and brothers, Darwyn Mooberry, Rev. Merryll Mooberry and Rev. Ronald Mooberry.
