Sandra May Sondag McNamar was born January 12, 1960, to Wilford “Buster” and Grace Lee Sondag in Sigourney, Iowa. She had one older brother, Richard Lee Sondag. Sandra graduated from English Valley High School in 1978 and from A.I.B. in 1980 with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. She worked for Waldinger Corporation from 1980 to 1983, Mario Falbo and Associates from 1983 to 1989, and The Principal Financial Group from 1989 to 2008.
She married Brian C. McNamar on May 19, 1990. She had a love for nature, especially bears. She enjoyed visiting national parks, traveling and camping. Sandra liked reading and spending time researching family history. She had a green thumb for her houseplants and would always crank up the radio for southern rock.
Sandra passed away after a courageous battle with a rare muscle tissue cancer Friday, February 24, 2017, at the age of 57.
There will be a memorial service at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, 2747 E Madison Ave, Des Moines, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Brian and their dog who she loved, Harvey, her mother-in-law, Arlene McNamar, her uncle Frank and aunt Evelyn Sondag, her uncle Harold and her aunt Evelyn Lee, and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Buster, mother, Grace, and her brother Richard.
To honor Sandra’s generous nature, in lieu of flowers please bring a donation of nonperishable food item(s) to Staves Memorial United Methodist Church to benefit their food pantry.

I was saddened to hear about Sandra. My heart goes out to you, Brian. I am grateful we got to visit briefly at our hometown reunion. It was so great to see her and meet you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
