Versal Mae Vanordstrand

Versal Mae Vanordstrand passed away on April 25, 2017, at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Versal was born on September 11, 1922 in Norwood, Missouri to Clara and Benjamin Cruzan. She was raised in Chicago, Illinois along with a brother, Martin, and two sisters, Anita and Helen.

On August 31, 1944 she was united in marriage with Glen Vanordstrand. They were blessed with three daughters. In 1954 Glen and Versal moved to Indianola, Iowa. Versal worked for 27 years for Iowa Power and Light (now Mid-American Energy) and retired in 1985. She was a member of the Indianola chapter of Business Professional Women (BPW) and was named woman of the year. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Descendants of the Mayflower. Versal was a proud Democrat and she was appointed to the Electorial College in 1996.

Versal is survived by daughters, Doris (Steve Teigland) Vanordstrand of Berkeley, California, Judi (Jerry) Ferguson of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Sue (Steve) Sullivan of Littleton, Colorado, 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Versal was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her husband of 54 years.

A graveside memorial service will be held at IOOF Cemetery in Indianola, Iowa on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.
