Darlene Gutuskie

Darlene Irene Gutuskie, 96, passed away on June 16, 2017 at Miami County Medical Center in Paola, Kansas. She was born April 27, 1921 to William and Inez (Spencer) Butler in Kewanee, Illinois and was the oldest of nine children.

She married John Paul Gutuskie on January 25, 1942 in Bethany, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband who died on May 16, 2011. They spent over fifty years of their lives together in Altoona, Iowa.

Darlene is survived by her two children, Ronald (Mary) Gutuskie and Irene Howard; three grandchildren, Paula (Jeff) Edwards, Jennifer (Collin) Vaughn, and Janna (Tony) Miller; and six great-grandchildren, Bailey Jo and Cameron, Ethan and Ella, and Luke and Paige.

Darlene enjoyed her work as a special police officer in the city of Des Moines for Younkers and for Pinkerton’s Inc. Her love of purses and accessories always kept her busy shopping. She collected hats and was known for wearing one everywhere she went. She cherished the special moments with family and friends and would write songs or poems about the memories.

Funeral services will occur at noon on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona. Interment will take place immediately following the funeral at Altoona Cemetery.
