Linda Irene Delbridge, 59, died Friday, January 25, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Two memorial services will be held, the first at 1:00 pm Monday, January 28, 2008 at First Assembly of God Church, 2725 Merle Hay Rd. in Des Moines, the second one at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, IA.
Linda was born March 4, 1948 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was a graduate of Alta High School. Linda received a B.A., summa cum laude, with a major in English and Education from Buena Vista University. She earned her M.S. and Ph.D., both summa cum laude, in Professional Studies in Education from Iowa State University where she was named to Phi Kappa Pi. Teaching was her life’s work. She was the head of the Talented and Gifted program at Ankeny High School. Linda tutored students with special needs until her health began failing in the spring of 2007. For several consecutive years, she received the Teaching Excellence Award given by the Belin Center at the University of Iowa and based on student nominations. In 1994, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Iowa Talented and Gifted Association, based on nominations from her colleagues, her students, and their parents; twice she received the ITAG Outstanding Research Award.
Linda is survived by her daughters, Sarah Reid and her husband, Randy, and Emily Motycka and her husband, Michael; her mother, Margelet Delbridge; brothers, David Delbridge and his wife, Debra, and Tom Delbridge; sister, Lisa Binder and her husband, Denny; three grandchildren, Paige, Walter, and Jocelyn; a host of nieces, nephews, and students; and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Delbridge; sister-in-law, Karla Delbridge; infant son, Aaron Parker; and her husband, Alan Parker.
