Lorene Pearl Cook Smith

Lorene Pearl Cook Smith, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. She was born June 9, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from East High School in 1946. Lorene was united in marriage with Jack William Smith on December 31, 1947. They had two children. Lorene retired from the State of Iowa Department of Revenue. She was a member of Rising Sun Church, Eastern Star, White Shrine, Daughters of the Nile, and East High Alumni Association. Everyone who knew Lorene was truly blessed. Words will never describe how much she will be missed. We will treasure memories of her great meals, family time, and most of all, her hugs.

Lorene is survived by her son, Jack Talley Smith; daughter, Sandra Sue Smith Klever; four grandchildren, Trisha Smith, Matthew Klever, Amanda (Nate) Kolander, and Samuel Klever (fiancé Rosi); and three great-granddaughters, Natalie Garcia, Ava Kolander, and Lyla Kolander.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Smith; her parents, Zack Cook and Pearl Kellar Cook; brothers, Noal, Roy, and Earl; sisters, Dorothy Ruff and Winifred Cook; and many loving nieces.

Services will be held at Rising Sun Church of Christ, 6390 NE Rising Sun Drive, Pleasant Hill. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, followed by a time of fellowship. A private family burial will take place at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
