Lawrence Smith

Lawrence “Larry” Smith, 73, passed away on February 28, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born in Little Rock, AR on October 8, 1944.

Larry was a member of the Iowa 7th Calvary Civil War Reenactment and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. He was also a member of the Cowboy reenactment group. He loved riding his Gold Wing Honda motorcycle and traveled to 44 states, attending Sturgis Motorcycle Rally several times. Was an avid golfer, sport shooter and loved spending time with his family. Larry was a member of AMVETS Post 2. Larry served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.

Larry is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judy Davis-Smith; daughters, Andrea (Kurt) Klopfenstein, Angela Davis and Melinda (Arpad Von Klimo) Campopiano, MD; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and his sister, Tanya (Tom) Rudman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Smith and his brother, Joe Smith.

The family will greet friends 4:00-6:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, there will be a Vigil Service at 6:00p.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in loving memory of Larry.
