Anna Barron

April 19, 2018

Service Details

Our Mom left this world in the early hours of April 19, 2018 surrounded by her family. We will miss her beautiful smile and gentle touch; however, we have comfort knowing she is in heaven with our Dad.

Anna was born on September 20, 1923 in Greeley, Colorado to Ramon and Refugio Castellano. Her family moved to Iowa when she was young and Anna resided in Iowa for the rest of her life in a home filled with love. Unfortunately, Anna’s Mother died when she was nine years old, leaving a husband and five children. Being the oldest daughter, Anna came to care for her younger siblings. Anna graduated from East High School and worked in the Defense Industry during World War II.

Anna met the love of her life at a wedding and they say it was love at first sight. She married Aurelio Barron, a dashing veteran and AIB student, and they lived most of their lives on the north side of Des Moines. Together Anna and Aurelio raised five sons.

Anna was a woman of strength and determination and had an enormous love for her family. Her dedication to her sons and their families was expressed in many beautiful acts of love and tenderness. She was also a magnificent cook. The smells of handmade Mexican dishes, especially homemade soup with bananas and tortillas, filled the house at all hours of the day and the thought of them stirs so many loving memories.

Anna is survived by her brother, Ramon Castellano, her sister Mary Lou Gutierrez, her five sons: Ramon (Frederike), Michael (Linda), Aurelio Jr. (Marilyn), Xavier, and Anthony, her 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Aurelio Sr., her brothers Alfonso and Moses and her daughters-in-law Judy and Kristen.

A memorial visitation will be held at Hamilton’s on 605 Lyons Street in Des Moines on Wednesday, May 2 from 5 to 7 pm with a Rosary to follow. Graveside service will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines on Thursday, May 3 at 1:00 pm.
