Merrill Eugene Mitchell, 75, passed away on August 10, 2018 at his home. He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on July 29, 1943 to Roy and Jewel Mitchell.

Merrill served in the United States Army as a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne. After proudly serving his country, Merrill worked as a warehouse manager for Pickwick and then later on retired from Lutheran Hospital. Merrill’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Merrill is survived by his mother, Jewel; brother, Raymond; sisters, Pat (Carl) and Luanne (Dennis); children, David (Sheryl), Danny, and Denice (Jeffrey); three grandchildren, Jessica, Daniel, and Tanner; two great-grandchildren, Gabby and Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty; his father, Roy; and his brother, Benny.

Merrill will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date.
