Richard Wonderlin

Richard Frederick Wonderlin, 77, passed away on January 28, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines after a short battle with cancer. “Dick” was born in Des Moines, on November 27, 1941, to Frederick “F.M.” Wonderlin and Anne (Margerum) Wonderlin.

Dick graduated from Dowling High School, and then worked for more than 30 years at the U.S. Postal Service. He greatly enjoyed short road trips to Branson, Missouri and longer over the road journeys including ones to Colorado, Florida, and Mississippi. Dick was a Hawkeye fan, liked to eat out, and enjoyed listening to 50’s music. He greatly missed his wife of 50 years after her passing in 2017.

Dick is survived by his children Karen Crosby (Robert) of Grimes, Jana Chomycia (Greg) of Naperville, IL, and Steven Wonderlin (Dawn) of Ankeny; brother Thomas Wonderlin (Connie) of Des Moines; sister-in-law Ellen Wonderlin-Wilke of Des Moines; and grandchildren Alyssa Crosby-Miller; Makenna Crosby; Courtney, Samantha, and Alexandria Chomycia; and Cole and Gage Wonderlin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Kephart) Wonderlin, his parents, brother Mark Wonderlin, and sister Sue Martin.

Services will be held at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church on Monday, February 4, 2019. Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. with Mass to begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery following the service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ankeny Public Library. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Dick’s remembrance.
