Service Details

Lars Peder Boerre of Urbandale, Iowa died on November 2, 2019, at the age of 64, after a hard-fought 137 day battle following a double lung transplant, but his larger-than-life persona and trademark stubbornness will not be forgotten. He was born December 1, 1954, in Faaborg, Denmark. He was the youngest son of the late Asger and Annelise Jessing Boerre.

Affectionately known as Lars Peder by his family and many friends, he was a butcher by trade, a professor at the Royal Danish Meat Trade School, a tremendous cook and avid bargain hunter. He despised wasting anything, wearing pants (especially after a drink or two), and anyone who came over to his house and claimed they were not hungry.

But Lars Peder had many loves, too. He loved his wife, Eva Boerre, to whom he was married to for 42 loving years. He also dearly loved his two boys, Lasse (Billie) Boerre of Grimes, and Dennis (Robin) Boerre of Adel, and his wonderful niece/daughter, Malene (Anders) Steffensen of Bojden, Denmark. He took extreme pride in his family and especially his grandchildren, Claire, Helena, Axel and Jace; and nephews, Mathias, Magnus, and Marius who affectionately called him Farfee or Oncle Peder. He is also survived by his sister, Dorthe Jorgensen of Denmark.

Lars Peder was world renowned for his lack of patience, not holding back his opinion, and a knack for telling it like it is. A people person, he never met a stranger. His devout feistiness and stubbornness served him well throughout his life, from growing up with not much, serving in the Danish National Guard, playing on the Danish National Youth Handball Team, coaching and playing many sports, owning and operating LPB Inc., and many other successful businesses. And even in these last few months, Lars was a model of strong will, amazing faith, and sheer determination right up until the end of his journey here on earth.

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many friends, family, neighbors, nieces, and nephews. Preceding Lars Peder in death were his parents; older brother, Ole Boerre; his brothers-in-law, Leif Knudsen and Erik Jorgensen; and his unborn daughter, Emma.

Tremendous heartfelt thanks go to the University of Iowa Lung Transplant Team as well as the truly compassionate and exceptional nurses and aides of Floor 7 Recovery. You all provided much more than just comfort to Lars Peder, but also provided a sense of humor, peace and tranquility during this amazing 137 day journey. You are loved.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, with funeral services following at 11:00 am.
