Kim Alonzo McKeever, 71, passed away February 21, 2020. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.
Kim was born December 30, 1948 in Des Moines, IA to Charles and Mary (Coons) McKeever. He attended East High School and began working for WW Grainger immediately following high school. He married Rose Foster in 1979 after they met on a blind date. The couple moved to Cedar Falls and later back to Des Moines in 1990 where they opened Iowa Video Exchange. After closing Iowa Video, Kim worked for Betts Cadillac and retired from Deco Tool.
In his free time, Kim enjoyed working in his yard. It was meticulous, and he took great pride in its presentation. He also enjoyed cheering his sons during their little league days, playing tennis, running and bowling. Kim was also a devoted Hawkeye fan and spectator of baseball, football and tennis. He was diagnosed with Lewy Bodies Dementia in August of 2016.
Kim is survived by his wife, Rose; sons, Jason (Gina) and Justin (Michelle) McKeever; grandchildren, Danielle, Jacob, Juliana and Rowan McKeever; his brother, Charles McKeever; niece Tonya (Darrin) Niday; and nephew, Todd (Rachel) McKeever.

Im so sorry for your loss. You have shown a tremendous amount of love and strength taking care of Kim, while also managing work and your home. I pray that you and your family find peace in knowing how many people are lifting you up during this difficult time.

Dear Rose and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I never had the pleasure of meeting Kim, but I have been in awe of the love and dedication Rose gave to him each and every day (Going to feed him and spend time with him each evening, after a long day at her job as a registered nurse at Iowa Clinic Urology). What a blessing to have a loving marriage like that. I am honored to work with Rose, and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear Mckeever family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope good memories of Kim get you through this tough time.
I met Kim through a mutual friend, Linda Des Planque Dobbs back in 1970. Kim was always friendly and had a beautiful smile.
With regrets, I will not be able to attend visitation tonight due to a bout with bronchitis. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Rose I will get in touch to see if we can meet for supper sometime.

My condolences to the McKeever family. Kim was my friend. Kim was more than an employee of Deco Tool Supply, as he was my friend. He was a true professional in his deportment, his appearance, in his work ethic his communications. Kim was my friend, he will be missed. True friends are hard-to-come by in this life and he was my friend.

My condolences to Rose, Justin, Jason and the rest of the McKeever family. Kim will be greatly missed.
I first met the McKeever family back in 1990 when they moved to the house in Urbandale in the cul-de-sac. Jason and I became best friends and remain so today. The very first thing I noticed was how incredibly clean their home was. It was always spotless. The hallway downstairs was so clean and slick. Jason and I would run and slide across it while wearing our socks (Risky Business style). I dont think Kim and Rose liked us doing that, but they let us get away with it a few times.
So anyways, they had this rug hanging on the wall upstairs and it had some fringes that dangle at the bottom. To play a joke on Kim; Jason and I would mess up the fringes, so they werent straight. Then we would hide in Jasons room and peak through the crack in the door for when Kim would walk by. He would see the rug all messed up and then pull a comb out of his back pocket that he would always carry with him. He would meticulously comb the fringes, so they were straight again. When he would leave, we would go mess it up again. Of course, he would come back and straighten it up. We did this probably 30 times one summer. Im positive he could hear us laughing in Jasons room every time. When we asked him about it, he played along and pretended like he had no idea how it was happening. Oh man, he was such a great caring fun man. Still to this day I think Kim is hands down the cleanest person I have ever met.
He was also a great runner. I have many memories of riding my bike around the neighborhood and seeing Kim getting one of his long-distance runs in. He could really run!
Also, Im pretty sure that I still owe him $5 for a bet we made on the NBA Finals in 1999. Thank you for not making me pay up.
One other thing I will always remember is his smile. Kim had a great smile, and a wonderful personality. He always made me, his sons best friend, feel like part of the family, and welcomed over to the house any time.
